Obsidian, rock crystal and 0.970 silver ornaments box by the artist Ezequiel Tapia, Chief Designer of the EXELTAPIA Firm in the city of Taxco.

Tapia is today one of the most prestigious creators of Mexican silverware, recognized for his impeccable craftsmanship and design, which combines the spirit of his pre-Hispanic past with a contemporary style.

He was born in the city of Taxco in 1935. He began his career as a stone carver as a child, and in his youth he created what would become his undisputed trademark: the combination of the most accomplished lapidary techniques and the silversmithing of his hometown.

In the early 1970s, Ezequiel formally opened his first silversmithing studio, where he developed his successful sculptures and his now classic lines of silversmithing. Jewelry came a little later, reinforcing the quality and luxury embodied by Tapia's pieces.

Years later, he opened his first gallery in the heart of Taxco, where to this day you can see a collection of great design and impeccable quality.

Ezequiel Tapia is perhaps best known for his numerous awards and distinctions, including 19 National Silversmith Awards—the most prestigious award for silversmithing in Mexico. And most recently, in 2006, the Hugo Salinas Price National Silversmith Award.
