A beautiful chatelaine of oriental origin, possibly Chinese, made of silver. Designed to be hung on a belt, the piece features a small clip between its pendants and bells, suggesting it was used as an accessory for preparing opium. Between the clasp and the pendants is a lovely carved figure representing a butterfly, an animal symbolically associated with opium in many cultures.
