A beautiful French bust in patinated terracotta, depicting a woman in a chemise and Elizabethan collar. With a complex expression that can be interpreted as both shyness and mischief, this figure suggests a connection to the Italian Commedia dell'Arte tradition or its French adaptation, the Comédie Française. The character of Colombina, who does not wear a mask, fulfills the role of companion and muse among the servants, temptation and bait for the older men, and confidante and ally to the younger. The bust is numbered on the back.
