Mappin & Webb English travel dressing table with silver and crystal tools, 19th century.

Extraordinary English gentleman's travel and vanity case, from the renowned silversmith Mappin & Webb, built in the late 19th century. The piece features a modular system for displaying its various drawers and compartments, which house various tools specific to the barber's trade. The exquisitely designed tools and containers are made of fine materials such as tortoiseshell, Bakelite, and glass, and are almost entirely constructed of fine silver verified with its lion-shaped hallmark, characteristic of English silver. Furthermore, all the elements bear the initials "M del E" inscribed on their surfaces.

The interior of the box is lined with a pleasant bottle-green velvet, which surrounds its original mirror, while its exterior is veneered in walnut wood with ivory details, except for its front face, which has been later restored to imitate the texture of the original wood.

Dimensions: Closed: 29 x 36 x 26 cm high and Open 57 x 79 x 47 cm high.

Condition: In good condition, commensurate with its age. It has been restored on its front. The set is incomplete, missing some tools. Two pieces, a pair of scissors and a box, are broken.
