Mario Toral: maestro contemporáneo
A los 16 años, se mudó a Buenos Aires, Argentina, donde ahorró para estudiar en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Montevideo, Uruguay. En 1957, se trasladó a Francia y se formó en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de París. Residió en Nueva York entre 1973 y 1992, participando en varias exhibiciones.
Al regresar a Chile, enseñó en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile y fue decano de la Facultad de Arte de la Universidad Finis Terrae. Entre 1996 y 1999, creó el mural "Memoria visual de una nación" en la estación Universidad de Chile del Metro de Santiago.
En 2001, inauguró otro mural en la Casa Central de la Universidad de Chile. En 2007, recibió la medalla de honor de la Fundación Pablo Neruda por su destacada trayectoria.
