Limoges porcelain, which emerged between 1765 and 1770 thanks to the discovery of kaolin near Limoges, has established itself as one of the two main porcelain producers in France, along with Sèvres. This hard, translucent ceramic art finds its cradle in a real production area organized around the city of Limoges (Haute-Vienne), where several centuries-old companies still operate.

Its history dates back to 1769, when Louis XV acquired the kaolin deposit, making porcelain production a royal privilege. Over the centuries, it experienced significant growth, reaching its peak during the Second French Empire, with more than 10,000 workers in 1891. However, the 1929 crisis and the World Wars severely impacted the industry, leading to its conversion and modernization.

In the 21st century, Limoges porcelain remains a symbol of excellence and luxury, with brands such as Bernardaud, Haviland, and Raynaud leading the industry. Despite challenges and the threat of relocation, the sector strives to maintain its authenticity and quality, supported by the acquisition of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) in 2017. Limoges porcelain persists as an artistic and cultural expression, representing a rich tradition that has stood the test of time.
