French majolica ceramic jug 'Military on a barrel' 19th century Frie Onnaing

Majolica water jug ​​or pitcher made by Onnaing in northern France.

A colorful soldier dressed in the military uniform of the Belgian army before 1914 sits on a barrel. He is calling for the reduction of military periods. His face winks with a smug smile.

It appears in the book "Pichets en Barbotine" by Maryse Bottero.

Founded in Onnaing, France, in 1821 by Charles de Bousies. During the second half of the 19th century, the Mouzin brothers bought the factory and ran it until its closure in 1938. It was nearly destroyed by the Germans during World War I, but production resumed in 1921. The factory mainly produced majolica jugs and flowerpots.

Other Onnaing designs included flowers, geometric patterns, famous historical figures, and more. Each design had a corresponding model number and name.

Origin: France, circa 1880s.

Measurements: 11x 28cm.

Condition: Very good condition, just a small crack typical of age, visible in the last photo.
