A striking bronze sculpture with a marble base, of French origin circa 1870, signed by Eugène Delaplanche (1836-1891), a renowned sculptor in 19th-century France. This magnificent work depicts a Virgin Mary, dressed in a mantle with elaborate folds and holding a bouquet of lilies. The Virgin's expression is profoundly sensitive and demonstrates the artist's masterful handling of the material to achieve the texture and drape of the fabric. The base is made of reddish marble with black and white veins. The inscription "Santa Maria Mater" is visible slightly above the base.
