Peltre
El peltre es una aleación compuesta por estaño, cobre, antimonio y, opcionalmente, plomo. Es maleable, blando y de color blanco con alguna similitud a la plata. Se funde entre 170 y 230 °C por lo que suele emplearse para adornos. Lo que hace especial al peltre es que por su materialidad es muy fácil de trabajarlo, moldearlo y tallarlo, permitiendo así creaciones más ligeras y pequeñas. Como dato especial podemos decir que en la Edad Media se utilizó como sustituto a la plata en las iglesias de regiones más pobres.
Es la combinación del estaño con otros metales la que le otorga ese tono característico plateado suave que puede pulirse parecerse a la plata o dejarlo con un envejecido color mate.
Los escultores suelen usar herramientas manuales, martillar o cincelar para dar relieve, patrones y formas únicas a sus creaciones.
